A method ( 300 ) and cognitive radio (CR) wireless device ( 102 ) are provided for dynamically accessing spectrum in an opportunistic spectrum access wireless communication system ( 100 ). The method includes: transmitting, from a CR wireless device, a signal ( 216 ) having a first bandwidth within an unoccupied portion of spectrum ( 206 ), and after a time interval (T 3 ) following the transmitting, and upon determining that an adjacent spectral quantum is occupied, transmitting from the CR wireless device a signal ( 216 ) having a second bandwidth, the second bandwidth being less than the first bandwidth. The method doubles a rate of growth of bandwidth of a transmitted signal when a spectral quantum adjacent to one side of the signal is unoccupied and a spectral quantum adjacent to the other side of the signal is occupied. The method utilizes knowledge of location of the CR wireless device and of band-edges to intelligently use spectral fence quanta.

The method includes the following processes: a second network receives a handover request sent by a first network; an access network entity of the second network selects a corresponding security capability, or an access network entity and a core network (CN) entity of the second network respectively select a corresponding security capability; the second network sends the selected security capability to a user equipment (UE) via the first network. Moreover, a security capability negotiation system is also provided. Consistent with the provided system and method, it may be unnecessary for the MME to know the security capability of the corresponding eNB in a certain manner during a handover from a 2G/3G network to an LTE network. Meanwhile, during the handover from the LTE network to the 3G network, the SGSN does not need to introduce new requirements.

Lower power wake-up device

A circuit for producing a wake-up signal to control powering up an electronic system, has a frequency selective radio frequency (RF) amplifier circuit that amplifies signals within a predetermined frequency range and produces an amplified RF output signal. An RF detector detects the presence of amplified RF output at the output of the amplifier circuit and produces a signal W indicative of the instantaneous presence of the RF output signal. A threshold detector circuit determines if the amplified output signal has reached a predetermined threshold and produces an output signal T. A clock generates a clock signal having clock period in response to the threshold detector output signal T. A data decoder logic circuit turns off the clock in the absence of an RF output signal for a prescribed time period and decodes the RF detector output signal W into a stream of output signals. A serial comparator circuit compares a most recent stream of N output data signals from the data decoder logic circuit with a stored reference pattern, wherein when the most recent stream of N output logic signals from the data decoder logic circuit matches the stored synchronization pattern the serial comparator circuit generates a wake-up signal that enables power to the electronic system. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Communication nodes maintain data buffering capabilities so that a data cache related to a particular mobile computing device is forwarded among communication nodes in anticipation the movement of the mobile computing device. A decision to forward a specific data cache associated with a particular mobile computing device to a particular end relay communication node is based upon the type, history or other knowledge of the data, knowledge of communication node configuration and/or knowledge of the particular mobile computing device. Intelligent predictions of advantageous buffer forwarding are employed to transmit data caches over high-speed connections between communication nodes to mitigate data buffering issues relating to the transmission of large amounts of data over slower end links between communication nodes and end user devices.

A method and system for targeting content (e.g., a service or an advertisement) according to location-based information derived from a mobile wireless transceiver device. Position information as a function of time is used to calculate a rate of travel and a direction of travel. This information can be used to identify a likely mode of transportation. Geographical information can be used to further refine the mode of transportation. Thus, in addition to the position of the wireless transceiver devices, factors such as the rate of travel, the direction of travel and the likely mode of transportation are also considered to more precisely identify the appropriate service. Moreover, a potential destination can be predicted, allowing further refinement of the targeted service.

A platform for providing location-based services is disclosed. A location data collection client running on a mobile device periodically obtains data allowing determination of the geographic location of the mobile device (e.g., GPS, cell tower, or WiFi data) and transmits that data and mobile device-specific information to a location-based services (LBS) platform server. The LBS platform server determines geographic location of the mobile device from the received data. For example, the LBS platform server accesses databases associating latitude and longitude coordinates with cell tower data or WiFi data and updates mobile device location to maintain current location information for the mobile device, which can be used as a proxy for the location of a mobile device user. The LBS platform server further includes a set of APIs allowing third-party services providers to access to the location data.

JOINT ESTIMATION OF MIMO CHANNELS AND NOISE CORRELATION FOR WIRELESS SYSTEMS WITH MULTIPLE RECEIVE ANTENNAS

A radio communication sent by a transmitter having M transmit antennas is received by a receiver having N receive antennas, where M is a positive integer greater than or equal to one and N is positive integer greater than one. Thus, N output signals, one for each receive antenna, are received. The signal transmitted from each transmit antenna includes predetermined pilot symbols known by the receiver and information symbols to be determined by the receiver. Weights for estimating each of M×N single-input/single-output channels between transmit and receive antennas are determined based on jointly processing pilot symbols received on all of the N receive antennas. The M×N channels are estimated based on the determined weights, and those estimated channels are used to determine the information symbols. An iterative procedure is used to estimate the M×N channels using a noise correlation matrix estimate and to estimate the noise correlation matrix using the M×N channel estimates.

Antenna feed network for full duplex cummunication

The present invention provides a wireless device for effecting two way wireless transmission, an antenna feed network, and a patch antenna. The wireless device includes an antenna assembly having two inputs accepting two feed signals shifted a feed signal phase difference apart. The antenna assembly receives a radiated signal and produces first and second received signals. First and second reflected feed signals are also produced at the two antenna inputs. A transmitter produces a transmission signal and a receiver receives the radiated signal while the transmission signal is transmitted by the antenna assembly. The antenna feed network interconnects the transmitter port, the receiver port, and the antenna assembly and produces the received signal while effecting substantial cancellation of the first and second reflected feed signals. Additionally, or alternatively, first and second transmission leakage signals at the received signal output substantially cancel each other.
