A plurality of original partial data are generated by dividing the original data by the prescribed processing unit bit length, a plurality of random number partial data each having a length less than or equal to the prescribed processing unit bit length are generated in correspondence to the plurality of original partial data, and a plurality of divided partial data that constitute each divided data are generated by using exclusive OR calculation of the original partial data and the random number partial data, each divided partial data having a length equal to the prescribed processing unit bit length. Then, the divided data in the desired number of division are generated from the plurality of divided partial data, such that the original data cannot be ascertained from any one divided data alone but the original data can be recovered from a prescribed number of the divided data among generated divided data.

The aim of this invention is to propose a control method for the conformity of a network key (NK). This method is applied during the transfer of data coming from a conditional access source to a domestic network. It handles on the verification of the network key (NK) authenticity using relevant control data provided by the verification center in general in form of a list {(TK) NK1 , (TK) NK2 , (TK) NK3 . . . }. A verification of the presence or absence of a cryptogram (TK) NK is carried out according to the list {(TK) NK1 , (TK) NK2 , (TK) NK3 . . . }. The cryptogram (TK) NK is constituted from a test key (TK), provided by the verification center, encrypted by a network key (NK) of a security module (CT) of a device (TV 1 , TV 2 , PC) connected to the network.

Method and system for generating shared information

A sender sends original random-number data to a receiver through a quantum channel. The receiver generates a raw key from information received through the quantum channel and notifies the received information to the sender. The sender performs received-bit comparison and basis reconciliation based on the received information and provisionally shares a sifted key with the receiver. The receiver sends part of its version of the sifted key to the sender, by which an error rate is calculated. The calculated error rate is compared with a predetermined threshold value for bit position synchronization determination. When the calculated error rate is larger, the sender notifies the receiver that bit position synchronization is not established. The receiver reassigns bit numbers to the sifted key, and received-bit comparison and basis reconciliation are performed again. This procedure is repeated until the calculated error rate becomes smaller than the threshold value.

Server authentication in non-secure channel card pin reset methods and computer implemented processes

A method for resetting a pin on an access card is disclosed. The method includes generating a server authentication (SA) public key and an SA private key and attempting a write of the SA public key to the access card over a non-secure channel. The method further includes determining if the access card currently contains an existing SA public key. The attempted write of the SA public key is handled by one of: (i) completing the attempted write of the SA public key to the access card over the non-secure channel if it is determined that the access card did not contain an existing public key; (ii) denying the attempted write of the SA public key to the access card over the non-secure channel if it is determined that the existing SA public key matches the SA public key that is attempted by the write; and (iii) denying the attempted write of the SA public key to the access card over the non-secure channel if it is determined that the existing SA public key does not match the SA public key that is attempted by the write.

A system and method for selectively inserting a digital watermark into a visual rendering by an image processing device. The image processing device receives an image processing request including image data of an associated document. The request is then analyzed to determine if a watermark is to be inserted into a visual rendering of the associated document. When required, the selected watermark is then retrieved from associated memory containing a watermark repository, based upon the image processing request.
Digital rights management is described involving a device, a content issuer, and a rights issuer. A content encryption key (CEK) is encrypted using a public key associated with the device to produce an encrypted CEK. The encrypted CEK is encrypted using an issuer encryption key to produce a twice encrypted CEK. The twice encrypted CEK is encrypted using the public key to produce a ciphertext included in a rights object. The rights object is available to the device for decrypting digital content associated with the content issuer. The device can then decrypt the rights object ciphertext using its private key to produce a decrypted rights object ciphertext and decrypt the decrypted rights object ciphertext using an issuer decryption key received from the content issuer to produce an encrypted CEK. The encrypted CEK is decrypted using the private key to obtain the CEK, which is then available for decrypting digital content.

System and method for authenticating/registering network device in power line communication (PLC)

A method and apparatus for protecting privacy in power line communication (PLC) networks. Data transmitted on a PLC network is encrypted according to a network key and can be properly received only by registered devices that have the proper network ID and network key value so that proper decryption can be performed. According to the invention a streaming media device is provided with a compatible network ID and network key during a registration process facilitated by coupling the device (applicant) to a direct power line connection associated with another device (administrator). The network key, and optionally network ID, are then shared over the direct connection without being distributed over the PLC network at large. By way of example, the data is prevented from being distributed across the PLC network in response to using selectable filtering of PLC data, and preferably a secure data communication mechanism, such as public-private key encoding.
